It seems like around the beginning of every year, the topic of baby teething explodes in popularity. Is it possible that all babies teeth in January and February? (The answer is no, btw.)
But let's talk about teething because it can be nerve wracking and can throw off routines.
Teething is the natural process of baby's teeth pushing up through their gums. The first tooth typically erupts between 4-6 months of age and is usually one of the two center bottom teeth. The upper two come next. And so on and so forth.
How can you tell when your baby is teething? Here are some telltale signs:
- Drooling
- Irritability
- Pulling at their ears (
- Putting everything into their mouth
- Mashing their gums against anything
What can you do to help your LO through this transition?
- Cold or frozen washcloth for baby to gnaw on
- Massaging their gums with your clean fingers (the pressure helps alleviate pain)
- Offer them a teether, like Caterpillar Teether, Alligator Sensory Toy & Teether, Panda Clip On Toy with Teether
- Pain medicine. Consult your pediatrician on this one.
- Extra hugs and cuddles
Believe me, teething is just a phase and you and your baby will get through it!
