If you're a Millennial like I am, you'll remember Rachel Zoe, Hollywood stylist turned reality TV star from Bravo and her catchphrase "You look bananas" or something is "bananas." While according to the Internet, Gwen Stefani actually preceded RZoe with describing something is "bananas" as "good," we need to give credit where credit is due because RZoe made it a thing. As an aside, while reviewing old clips of the Rachel Zoe Project for, ahem, research purposes, I think she may have been one of the first people to say "That is everything," which is way before Maddie on "Euphoria" made it her phrase. More on "Euphoria" in another post.
But I digress...
This blog post is about things I'm bananas for. Because sometimes you just need to remind yourself of all the things that are making you happy.
Bananas - December 5, 2024 (in no particular order)
- I've been on a K-drama binge. Here are some of my recent favorites (all on Netflix):
- Mystic Pop Up Bar. Romantic love is not the primary focus of this one which I love. Because sometimes you just need a break from a love triangle.
- A Virtuous Business. This one is hilarious. Makes me want to live in a small town...for a few months. Oh, and the perms. To die for. I'm getting on in January.
- Reply 1988. I like this one for the nostalgia. I've also been craving Korean food just about everyday.
- Perler beads or Fuse beads
- Many months ago I bought a perler bead set for the kids. Unfortunately the kit broke during transit and all the bead colors got mixed together (my blood pressure literally rose). Despite my best judgment, I still let the kids start working with the kit. Then about ten minutes later, I came to my senses and hid the entire kit in our back house to be forgotten for many moons. Recently my son remembered that we had it and we decided to give it another go during our week-long Thanksgiving break. I'm surprised and delighted to say that it's been a big win this time around. Both kids become fully engrossed when crafting their templates and, more importantly, do so QUIETLY. While I still do find beads here and there, it's been worth it. Recommended for kids 3+ with adults doing the ironing part.
- Zara Kids Christmas sweaters
- I just never know when my kids will like or hate the clothes I buy for them. Case in point, I bought my son a reindeer Christmas sweater from Zara for our family photos recently. I predicted he'd wear it once just for the photo session to appease me. But shockingly he's worn it every single day this week to school. Which now means, I need to get him a second one because his sweater comes home dirty every day. Laundry every day, I can't.
- Working with Baby Bundles
- When we bought the Genius Babies business last year, we bought it with all its inventory. As with all business, you've got your winners and losers. And like many businesses, ours follows the 80/20 rule: 20% of your products generate 80% of your sales. What do you do with the other 80%? You have to evaluate strategically each one. Does one not sell now because it's gone of our fashion? Does one not bring in much dollar sales because it's inexpensive, yet provides customers with an opening price point? Do you have too many similar items that cannibalize one another? Etc etc.
- TL;DR: I did this analysis and found that some of our toys are better donated to incredible not-for-profit organizations than sitting in our warehouse, gathering dust. I'm so excited to partner with Baby Bundles to donate over 11,000 units of product to new families in need.
